    Prevent and Manage Rubs

We have been helping customers and their horses with rubs of all kinds - rubbing from straps, halters, and the muzzle itself - for years.

This is our comprehensive video tutorial on preventing and managing rubs. If you don't have a roll of electrical tape and/or a roll of gorilla tape, we highly recommend buying at least one of each before you watch the video!

If you have a query that isn't answered by the full tutorial video, feel free to ask us! Just send an email to support@gg-equine.com.

Please send a photo of the rub location and your horse wearing their full muzzle and halter setup. The photo should be taken directly from the side with your horse's head up. That will give our customer service team a chance to assess the situation and offer better help.

Best muzzle ever! (tried them all)

I have ponies which means at least one is in a muzzle. Over the years I have tried every version out there. The current pony has hyperesthesia from chronic Lyme disease which is improving with treatment. But it means he's very sensitive to touch. With one model he refused to move or drink. Another version, clear plastic, he just kept tearing up or getting off maybe with help from his pasture buddies. He's been in the GG & their halter for over 2 months now. Never gotten it off although it did tear in a corner. The warranty service was amazing! They replaced it quickly & recommended I use the corner straps. I made sure to follow their fitting instructions. His nose & chin initially got rubs on them. I recommend buying the stickers to prevent this and put on the muzzle when it's new if your horse has a good size chin. That solved the issue. I like how rain doesn't affect the muzzle and he has room to breathe. He seems happy in it too.

    rub stickers

They prevent chafing on my mares lips and chin. Have to replace them every few months as they do wear out. The stickiness of them isn't great. I just add a few strips of heavy duty Gorilla Tape and it works great.

    What a great idea!

Everyone whose horse wears a muzzle knows about rub marks. My horse started to have a rub mark on the underside of her chin, so I bought these stickers and they work great! I like them better than using duct tape - they last way longer, seem to stick better, and certainly look better!

    Cool and Comfortable

I have a new-to-me 16 year old Haflinger mare that was starting to get chubby so I began to research muzzles. On several of the Haflinger FB pages the GG muzzle was highly praised by owners so I decided to give it a try. In the past I have used the bucket style muzzle on other horses and it always seemed hot and heavy to me. So far, my mare willingly accepts the GG muzzle every morning before I turn her out. It is not hot and she hasn’t gotten any rubs from it. She has also lost weight! I am a believer!!

Thank you Green Guard for a product that I don’t feel guilty putting on my horse!!

Joyce, thank you for taking time to share your experiences. It's really cool to hear that folks are talking us up on the Haffie FB pages. Especially in our early years, we saw probably more Haflingers than any other single breed. Of course, talk is one thing; we're grateful that you and your horse found the muzzle practical, useful, and comfortable. Our entire mission is to help horses and owners meet their muzzling goals, whatever they may be. If there's any way we can help y'all in future, please reach out to support@gg-equine.com.
